Also pull in the one line change that was added to 'import syslog' in r8289, but don't pull in the rest of the commit as it's more extensive and potentially breaks other interfaces around the tree.

There are a number of issues that can result from one setting the netbios, service names from DNS. DNS is less limiting than netbios (15 character limit) in terms of length, and Windows does some tricky things if a netbios name has already been taken on the network, but it turns out that NetBIOS permits some characters not allowed in the DNS spec (!, $, etc). This also (according to jhixson), breaks the AD tie-in because it uses the netbios [database?] field somewhere in the code.
