My assumption that things would work in the original "make more conflict resistant" commit was flawed in the sense that IFS does proper wordsplitting and thus having f with a multiline definition with tabs was ok. Wrong.

Also, fix a handful of additional typos I introduced into ix-ups while I'm here..
