Delete perl with -f to ignore dependencies. Some investigation needs to be done to determine why so many packages are depending on perl if in reality we haven't seen an issue with perl yet on FreeNAS.

Mute unnecessary noise from pdbedit. All fatal output should continue to go to stderr if necessary (kind of odd why the manpage says that the default debug output is 0, but it's printing out more noise than one expects).

Merge r8085:

Fix the alert subsystem so that it _actually_ reports alerts and is more robust.

The salient point was that the input provided to the log method was unicode objects; thus, by passing them through the unicode built-in, the email method no longer barfed when trying to send an alert as they were properly marshalled into string objects.
