Kill pipes and use 'del d[key]' instead of 'del d.pop(key)'
because del is a little more intuitive to deal with when
nuking values from a dict than just popping the value from
a dict.

Clean up disk descriptions so that we don't run into E2BIG
errors with a large collection of disks.

Clean up imports a little bit. 'from <module> import foo' is
hard to grep for in large python sourcebases.
