I am taking this course in order to learn and understand the fundamentals of Python, in order to take more advanced Python courses with the goal of being able to take an IBM Certificate course on AI Engineering and Development. I have a long way to go, and both Python Fundamentals I and II are ideal for introducing a total beginner like myself to the core concepts of Python, so that I can comfortably take more advanced online courses.
The pedagogical design of this work-at-your-own-pace is decently designed; while there are sections where I feel like I missed a core concept and am unsure of progressing, I can say with confidence to anyone else who may have similar issues (due to neurodiversity) and need everything explicitly explained out: take this course and when you feel uncertain, *push ahead anyway*. It took me a little bit to understand that the fundamental design of this course is to introduce beginners to Python. You are not expected to produce flawless results, you will try to replicate what Erik is showing you and it will fail, and you’ll wonder what you did wrong and why you can’t figure it out–push forward anyway. The point is not to perfectly produce what is being shown, the point is to understand the course material and concepts. Embrace the idea of not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good–pay for the course and teach yourself the fundamentals of Python. There will be plenty of opportunity to refine your skills; this is simply a well-designed program for teaching yourself the fundamentals.

Python Fundamentals I initiates one into the corps of coders as someone who knows a Computer Language. Fundamentals II brings you into the circle of those who actually know how to create programs for actual use by actual people. It is the organizational structure and practical application of Python into useful code that people can use. I enjoyed it from page one, learning how to create and use modules and packages, from the core virtual environment to the packaging of the application by Pyinstaller. A must-learn for everyone who wants to use Python to turn ideas into useful code.

This course was exactly what I needed. I learned how modules are organized and how to use virtual environments better manage imports. Before I took this course I had over 150 packages installed in Python! Now my scripts and projects are much better organized. This also got me more comfortable with using different package managers and with features of VSCode I didn’t know about. And even though I had to take a long break I was able to pick it up later and finish it at my own pace.

If you got Fundamentals I it is good idea to proceed with Fundamentals II. You will learn more practice aspects of Python coding

After completing fundamentals I, I finally found the time to continue with this part two course and I’m glad I did! I feel like I finally have a good grasp of what’s going on with all the virtual environment stuff which was a bit of a mystery to me before this course. I settled on using Poetry for each project once I got the hang of it. The exercises in which Erik shows how to convert a project into using Poetry were especially helpful.
