Apache crashing, php related?

Everyother day or so, I have been getting 404 error when trying to view my site hosted on a local server running XAMPP. When I log on to the server I see the following error message:

 

apache.exe Application Error

The Instruction at "0x0096ae66" referenced memory at "0x020f6000" the memory could not be "read".

 

It appers to coincide with the following application event log:

Not sure what it means, or how to fix it. Any insight would be great!

My first piece of advice is to switch operating system

 

But more seriously, it looks like a dodgy dll situation - just try reinstalling both apache and php. Hopefully that works, otherwise i have no other suggestions. Sorry
