OpenScript

OpenScript is a lightweight Windows script editor that I created to quickly create and edit script files such as CMD/BAT, PowerShell, and Bash and ksh shell scripts.

• Multi-document tabbed editing with dirty indicators (*) and tab management (Ctrl+N, Ctrl+W).
• Integrated terminal pane directly in the window (Ctrl+`) with script execution (F5) and command line support.
• Create, open, edit, and save script/text files.
• Print script files.
• Find, replace, and replace all text (Ctrl+F, Ctrl+H).
• Show logical line numbers in a dedicated double-buffered gutter.
• Real-time debounced syntax highlighting for common script languages.
• Insert common script commands and variables from the Insert menu.
• High-DPI Per-Monitor V2 and Windows 11 Immersive Dark Titlebar support.
• Prompt to save unsaved changes before closing tabs or exiting.

1. Build or obtain the installer at installer/OpenScriptInstaller.msi.
2. Run the MSI as an administrator.
3. Accept the BSD-3 Clause license in the installer.
4. Choose installation options:
   • Install location under Program Files.
   • Optional Start Menu shortcut.
5. Complete setup and launch OpenScript.

1. Open this folder in VS Code on Windows.
2. Make sure Visual Studios Build Tools, rc.exe, and the WiX toolset are installed and available.
3. Build the app using the VS Code task named C/C++: cl.exe build active file.

1. Ensure OpenScript.exe exists in the project root.
2. Open a terminal in the installer folder.
3. Run build-installer.cmd.
4. The MSI is produced as installer/OpenScriptInstaller.msi.

• OpenScript.cpp: Main Win32 application source.
• OpenScript.rc: Windows resource script (embedded app icon and application manifest).
• OpenScript.manifest: Windows application manifest (Common Controls v6, Per-Monitor V2 DPI, Long Paths).
• script-icon.ico: Application icon source.
• openscript.ini: Runtime settings file (stored in %APPDATA%\OpenScript with portable fallback).
• installer/OpenScriptInstaller.wxs: WiX installer definition.
• installer/License.rtf: Installer EULA content.
• installer/build-installer.cmd: MSI build script.
