Hi, I'm Daniel 👋 I'm a product engineer and engineering leader in Portland, Oregon. Right now I'm a Staff AI Product Engineer at Blackboard, building a new AI product with Claude Code and Codex in my daily loop.
Most of my career has been software for hotel revenue managers. In 2012 I built a rate-shopping prototype in Excel and VBA. It became Revcaster, which grew into the #1 customer-rated tool on Hotel Tech Report, crawled close to 30 million hotel rates a night, and was acquired by The Rainmaker Group. Since then I've led engineering at Best Western and Trimble, and I still write code every day. I like to say I'm lazy, so I use programming to make my life easier.
- Best Western Hotels & Resorts (2018 to 2025). Led a team of five building for 4,500+ hotels. We shipped Best Western's first production generative AI product: a RAG support assistant on Claude through AWS Bedrock that cut inbound support requests by more than 90%. Before that, I was the lead developer on Best Western's first production app on AWS, which replaced an Excel workflow for 75+ revenue managers across 800 hotels.
- Trimble (2026). AI Engineering Manager on enterprise ERP accounting and payroll: ML-powered anomaly detection APIs and getting AI-assisted development into teams' everyday work.
- Revcaster (2012 to 2018). Founder and CEO. Excel prototype, then a Rails SaaS platform, then the #1 rated tool in its category, then an acquisition. Remote-first team across North America, Ukraine, and Africa.
- Wise Revenue Management (2013 to 2022). Consulting on the side: custom SaaS and serverless tools for 50+ hotel clients.
Most of what I build in the open is tooling for working with coding agents.
- DubStack: a local-first CLI for stacked branches and small, reviewable PRs.
brew install wiseiodev/dubstack/dubstack - Guardrails: Biome, Lefthook, Commitlint, CI, and AGENTS.md rules that keep agents inside the lines in a pnpm repo.
pnpm add -D @wiseiodev/guardrails - Skills: agent skills I use every day, like a two-reviewer adversarial code review.
npx skills add wiseiodev/skills/<skill> - Agentic Engineering Playbook: how I keep several coding agents running in parallel without letting them overengineer
- Shiplog: a searchable index of past agent runs and lessons, with an MCP server so agents check what happened before they start
- Rage AI: a frustration leaderboard for Claude Code and Codex. It counts the swearing in your local transcripts.
- Integrating Azure Web PubSub with Inngest for Real-Time React Updates, February 11, 2025
- Absurdist LinkedIn Bio Experiment, in which ChatGPT names me CTO of Vibes
- HSMAI Top 25 Extraordinary Minds in Hospitality Sales, Marketing & Revenue Optimization, 2016
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (2025), AI Practitioner (2024), and Cloud Practitioner (2023)
- MBA, University of Oregon. Revcaster started as my capstone business plan.
My most important job is being a dad. My son Alex is why I advocate for autism research. Our family joined the SPARK for Autism study, which finally gave us answers about his condition (KATU News). I'm also the volunteer webmaster for our elementary school's PSO, where I built a school calendar parents can actually read. When I have free time, I'm at a hackathon, painting, tinkering with a 3D printer, or watching sci-fi with Alex and our French Bulldog.
