MaxCompute:Storage fees

Last Updated:Apr 01, 2025

MaxCompute charges for the storage and backup of data, such as tables or resources, based on the size of a single data replica. This topic describes the billing rules for different storage types.

Background information

MaxCompute data is stored in the columnar compression format, with a general compression ratio of around 1:5. By default, data is redundantly stored with three replicas. Multi-zone storage and single-zone storage are supported. Storage costs are billed based on the size of a single compressed data replica.

  • Multi-zone storage: Data is redundantly stored in multiple zones of the same region. When a zone-level fault occurs, the disaster recovery capability of multi-zone storage prevents data read and write services from being affected. This ensures data integrity and security. For more information, see Zone-disaster recovery. For more information about the billing formulas and pricing for multi-zone storage, see Billing for multi-zone storage.

  • Single-zone storage: Data is redundantly stored on multiple storage devices in the same zone. Single-zone storage ensures data durability and availability in the event of hardware-level failures. For more information about the billing formulas and pricing for single-zone storage, see Billing for single-zone storage.

  • Backup storage: For more information about the billing formulas and pricing for data backup, see Billing for backup storage.

If an instance has an overdue payment, the instance may be suspended. To prevent your services from being affected, the system reminds you or notifies you to settle the overdue payment at the earliest opportunity. For more information, see Alerts for overdue payments and rules for service suspension.

Note

Storage bills are typically generated within three hours after the current billing cycle. The delay does not exceed six hours. For example, the bill of the previous day is generated before 06:00 the current day. The actual generation time depends on the system. After the bill is generated, the fee is automatically deducted from your account balance. You can go to the Bill Details page to view the bill details.

Billing for multi-zone storage

MaxCompute collects the hourly storage volume of each project for billing. The storage volume is the size of a single compressed data replica. For the projects that use tiered storage, you are charged data access fees based on the amount of the accessed data. The following table describes the billing rules.

Storage type

Billing formula

Unit price

Description

Multi-zone storage - Standard storage

Daily storage fees = Average daily storage volume × Unit price

0.00078 USD/GB/day.

Note

The SAU (Riyadh - Partner Region) region is operated by a partner. The unit price in this region is 0.000936 USD/GB/day.

Average daily storage volume = Sum of the collected storage volume/24

Multi-zone storage - Infrequent access (IA) storage

  • Daily storage fees = Average daily storage volume × Unit price

  • Data access fees = Amount of accessed data × Unit price

  • Unit price for IA storage: 0.000536 USD/GB/day.

  • Unit price for access to data of IA storage: 0.006191 USD/GB.

Note

The SAU (Riyadh - Partner Region) region is operated by a partner. The unit prices differ in this region:

  • Unit price for IA storage: 0.000643 USD/GB/day.

  • Unit price for access to data of IA storage: 0.007429 USD/GB.

  • Average daily storage volume = Sum of the collected storage volume/24

  • If the storage type of a table or partition is changed from IA storage to standard storage or long-term storage, you are charged data access fees for IA storage of the entire table or partition.

  • If the storage type of a table or partition is changed from long-term storage to standard storage or IA storage, you are charged data access fees for long-term storage of the entire table or partition.

Multi-zone storage - Long-term storage

  • Daily storage fees = Average daily storage volume × Unit price

  • Data access fees = Amount of accessed data × Unit price

  • Unit price for long-term storage: 0.000221 USD/GB/day.

  • Unit price for access to data of long-term storage: 0.080793 USD/GB.

Note

The SAU (Riyadh - Partner Region) region is operated by a partner. The unit prices differ in this region:

  • Unit price for long-term storage: 0.000265 USD/GB/day.

  • Unit price for access to data of long-term storage: 0.096952 USD/GB.

Billing for single-zone storage

MaxCompute collects the hourly storage volume of each project for billing. For the projects that use tiered storage, you are charged data access fees based on the amount of the accessed data. The following table describes the billing rules.

Storage type

Billing formula

Unit price

Description

Single-zone storage - Standard storage

Daily storage fees = Average daily storage volume × Unit price

If the actual storage volume of a project is 1 GB or less than 1 GB, the data storage is free of charge. If the actual storage volume exceeds 1 GB, you are charged for the extra data volume based on the unit price 0.0006 USD/GB/day.

Note

The SAU (Riyadh - Partner Region) region is operated by a partner. The unit price in this region is 0.00072 USD/GB/day.

Average daily storage volume = Sum of the collected storage volume/24

Single-zone storage - IA storage

  • Daily storage fees = Average daily storage volume × Unit price

  • Data access fees = Amount of accessed data × Unit price

  • Unit price for IA storage: 0.000412 USD/GB/day.

  • Unit price for access to data of IA storage: 0.006191 USD/GB.

Note

The SAU (Riyadh - Partner Region) region is operated by a partner. The unit prices differ in this region:

  • Unit price for IA storage: 0.000494 USD/GB/day.

Single-zone storage - Long-term storage

Note

The SAU (Riyadh - Partner Region) region is operated by a partner. The unit prices differ in this region:

  • Unit price for long-term storage: 0.000204 USD/GB/day.

  • Unit price for access to data of long-term storage: 0.096952 USD/GB.

Billing for backup storage

MaxCompute supports automatic backup and restoration. For more information, see Backup.

MaxCompute collects the hourly backup storage volume of each project for billing. The following table describes the billing rules.

Billing formula

Unit price

Description

Daily backup storage fees = Average daily backup storage volume × Unit price

  • By default, MaxCompute projects provide automatic backup with a one-day data retention period for free.

  • If the project administrator changes the data retention period to more than one day, MaxCompute charges you on a pay-as-you-go basis for the backup data that is retained for more than one day.

    Unit price: 0.0006 USD/GB/day.
